The Timeline of an over-planning Procrastinator
Explaining Yourself was the name of Scott Stowell's class, one of my favorites from my MFAD experience. His project asked us to make a real inforgraphic of something "not just an assortment of hipster mustaches". Managing a relationship with time is a constant in grad school. A graphic that represented my ever-shifting timelines, was revealing—like infographics should be.

Family Map
For Stephan Sameister's class "Can Design Touch Someone's Heart", I compiled a graphic of the family genealogy my grandfather had been collecting on individual sheets for 70 years. The final graphic spans 12 generations that visually connect across branches of the tree with bands of color, and has the names of over 200 family members.

Asana Yoga Mat
For Allan Chochinov's MFAD class "Design in 3D" he asked us to do ethnographic research of an acquaintance, and design a product that they have been waiting for. Aftr attending yoga classes with my subject, we'd find ourselves chatting in the steam room about her insecurities in the postures and the order of the yogic primary series. I designed her this mat, which shows all of the postures in order. A perfect tool for class and personal practice at home.

Last Resort Self Defense Tagger
Pepper spray is cumbersome, not to mention the more assertive members of the self-defense family. Yet, there are few city-dwellers who haven’t, at some point felt threatened. The Last Resort pepper spray necklace is made of spent bullet casings, turning the symbol of violence into a means of empowerment. The spray contained inside of each Last Resort is a unique signature color to tag attackers, and give a signature marking for authorities to track. The signature fashion symbol of Last Resort is the unified first line of defense.

Attackerman
When Spencer Ackerman, Wired journalist, approached me to design his blog, he wanted something that spoke to his punk roots and military subject matter. The rebellious feel of the blog reflects Ackerman's tongue-in-cheek commentary on national security and his own indie interests.

Etcetera
In Milton Glaser's MFA class "Design and Intention", he challenged us to pitch a restaurant concept approaching the problem through the senses of food lovers. I came back to the class with the concept of a restaurant/café, of which there are few in the Brooklyn Height's area of New York. Here are the menus that served as a visual filter for the restaurant.

What Goes into Getting a Hot Dog Puzzle
How would you communicate the purchasing of a hot dog without words? This was the prompt from Scott Stowell for his MFAD course "Explaining Yourself". As a designer I was drawn to designing for children, an audience that may need pre-literate communication. My illustrations bow to a classic children's book style. The unexpected layer of the puzzle speaks to the hot dog's origin, a reality that is hard to swallow as an adult.
